Today I decided to do an audio post for my 365 offering. As we get deeper into video production I know that one skill I really need to work on is audio capture and editing. I headed out this evening with a Sennheiser ME-67 and an Edirol audio recorder. Big thanks to Marc for letting me borrow the recorder. The recording comes after the story.
Meg was in Little Five Points to purchase some props and wardrobe for a shoot we have next week. I met her there and walked around recording sounds of cars, people, etc. Someone called out to me;
“What in the hell is that thing? Is that a gun or something?”
The ME-67 is about 14 inches long and is kind of menacing looking in the dark. Black Rob (as he’s known on the streets) was just making sure nothing crazy was about to go down. He started asking me about recording equipment and I started asking about his life.
I recorded Rob without the aid of headphones. I scurried out of the studio too quickly today and left my headphones behind. Always a great thing to do when trying to learn how to capture audio. Luckily the Edirol recorder has a nice level readout so I just kept my eye on that while recording.
I came home needing some music to lay under the recording I had made. Meg disappeared into Loretta to create an original song just for me. She reappeared at 5am. I had cut all the parts out of the recording that I wanted and got to work in Apple’s Soundtrack Pro. This is the first time I’ve used the program. It is 7:45am Sunday now and I’m just getting the post online.
Listen to the final project for the day.
Cheers,
Zack

you inspire me beyond words, but i think you already knew that. http://www.debsphotographs.com/photoblog/?p=467
Really cool Zack! I like the piano work. I kept waiting for the hip hop beat to come in, which I think would be cool for a remix. I record and remix music too so if you want me to play around with it I’d be happy to make one for you. Let me know and keep up the creativity.

Run with it!
Zack,
Here’s the remix, at least a first attempt at it… :-)

I hope you like it,

First, a big thanks to Deb for turning me onto this blog. I hope that Zack wasn’t trying to keep it too secret. Once again, Zack, it appears that you have found yet another way to inspire me. I’ve only been taking pics for about a year. I still suck, but things just seemed to take off once I found your original blog. Thank you very much for everything you’ve done!
And, Chris, I dig the pimp remix!
amazing. The music goes so beautifully with this.
this is amazing!!! i’m such a girl i totally teared up.
Thanks Aris! I will be expanding upon the simple remix you just heard and try and make it a little more interesting with some other instruments. Zack, what’d you think of my efforts? I stayed up until 1:00 a.m. working on it and had to get up at 5 a.m. to go to work. lol
Chris
