Day 59 :: The Fish Souk :: Dubai

If you can get past the smell of thousands of pounds of fish in an open air market at 6 am then you really need to check out the fish souk in Dubai. The people working their are the warmest, most entertaining folks in the city at times! It isn’t an easy job they have though and you can see that when the warm smiles sometimes fade.

How it was shot :: Nikon D3 with the 105mm f2 lens. Shot at f2. I think the 105 f2 is my favorite lens of all time right now. Just barely surpassing my 35mm f2. (available light)

Cheers,
Zack

    Zack,

I keep clicking on this picture. His eyes really pull me into this photo. The shallow DOF helps, but I can only imagine the personality behind the image. Sometimes it is the simplicity that captivates most.

Great focus – do you get people to “peacock” their heads a bit forward to create some more separation from their neck?

Amazing focus, I really wish I can take up some courses from you =)

Wow. I agree with you Z. Stunning details and love the DOF fall off. Gota love f2 and below. Me thinks I be needing a 105mm f2 right about now.

I hope you enjoy your stay here in Dubai, Zack. Even with all the downpour and whatnot. See you on Photo Friday.

Hell, I’m thinking I need a 105mm as well. The DOF looks amazing.

I recently got a 105MM and I’m getting use to it. Its a pretty crisp lens and with the available light you can work magic :)
Have fun in Dubia bro, I’m looking to see more of your Dubia magic like last year :)

The strength of his eyes & face paired with the soft subtle tones really makes this one a winner. Most would have processed this to make it ultra sharp and contrasty. I love the gentle air it has.

Great portrait… you looking to get that duChemin look because you could put him out of a job with this. ; )

Great tip in the comments about posing. Going to have to remember that.

I love the intensity of this portrait and I respect the work. My father is a commercial fisherman, and has been for over forty years.
